Who is Mafe?

Art is a powerful means of communication that brings thoughts, ideas, and emotions to life. In my career, I decided to incorporate critical thinking skills by studying political science and international relations. While many see these fields as separate from the arts, I quickly realized that art serves as a social mechanism for transforming realities affected by violence. Through various research groups, I explored topics such as Hip-Hop as a Tool for Change for Youth in Comuna 13, Medellín, Colombia. I also contributed to press and promotion efforts for the Ícaro Film Festival (Central American Film Festival) at Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano, where I wrote about the role of women in different short and feature films.
However, art never stopped playing an important role in my life. Dance and theater, in particular, have equipped me with essential soft skills like flexibility, adaptability, creativity, discipline, and confidence—qualities that have shaped my personal and professional journey.
This journey helped me understand the fundamental role of communication in shaping the world. The combination of art and political science has proven to be a powerful force in both digital and traditional media. As a media communicator with a social, economic, and political lens, I have been able to develop and execute audiovisual projects like Compass Chronicles, a series highlighting cultural diversity in the Canadian music scene.
The best ideas are born from multidisciplinary perspectives—mine being a fusion of artistic, political, and communicative viewpoints. This approach ensures that my projects are meaningful and have a lasting impact.
